| The
Parish Council has representatives from the villages of Willingdon
and Jevington. The
Council was formed by a merger of the previous Willingdon and Jevington Parish
Councils about fifteen years ago. The villages are very different but the Council
seeks to equally look after the interests of both. Willingdon
Willingdon
has a population of over 6,000. It is one of the larger villages within the county
of East Sussex . It is situated to the southern end of the area covered by Wealden
District Council. Although recent development means that the village is now predominantly
urban rather than rural, the immediate proximity of the South Downs provides a
rural dominance. Jevington

Jevington has a population of less than 200. It is one of the smaller
villages within the Wealden area. It is mostly designated as a Conservation area.
As such its character and appearance are protected from development.
It
is a rural village nestling within the South Downs at the eastern end of the South
Downs Way and falls within the boundary at present under discussion for the proposed
South Downs National Park. A
high proportion of the buildings in the village are listed as being of architectural
or historic value. The South Downs Way long distance path passes through the village. Filching,
a small hamlet between Wannock and Jevington is included in the Jevington ward.

The
Parish Council consists of 19 elected representatives from the community who meet
six times a year. In addition to this there is an annual parish meeting.
Parish Council Meetings are held in the Primary School on Mondays at 7.30pm.
There is a public question time so that anyone can attend to make views known.
Five committees
carry out the work of the Council meeting mostly at The Parish Office 3 Gorringe
Valley Road Willingdon, but occasionally at the Village Hall in Jevington. Committee
meetings are also open and held on Mondays at 7.30pm. Parish
Councils have many functions possible, but they are all discretionary. This is
why all parish councils do different things. In
Willingdon and Jevington the five committees are:
